Our History

The Sangha evolved through a series of Zen classes offered in the Fall of 2009 by our teacher Lotus Vu who wanted to share the joys, beauty and simplicity of the Zen practice. From the first twelve classes, a community started to organically bud from those who learned and practiced Zen. Our Sangha`s growth and formation is a testimony to the transformative power of the Zen practice.

LOTUS VU - Founding Teacher

Our community is guided by Zen Teacher Lotus Vu who was born in Vietnam and raised in Canada. She took her Buddhist precepts and vows with her teacher Venerable Thich Vien Minh (Tit-wen-ming), a hermit Zen monk in Vietnam. Lotus is the 43rd generation of the Vietnamese Rinzai Linage of Nguyen Thieu. She has attended retreats with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and has studied Buddhism with numerous teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh and other less well-known Buddhist monastics. She studied and explored a variety of Buddhist traditions such as Theravada, Tantra, Pure Land and Zen since the age of 9, but chose Zen to be her main path.

Among the many joys she has found in life from the practice of Zen, one is to share the practice with others. With all things, change happens! As of September 2016, she has relocated back to Toronto to take care of her aging mother after 7 years residing in Regina.

MILAN VORA - Guiding Teacher

Presently our community is being led by Milan Vora (Priti) who moved to Regina in 2010 from England. Milan took his Buddhist precepts and vows under Lotus. He completed 5 years of Koan Study under Lotus and received full authorization to teach. He continues the Zen tradition as the the 44th generation of the Vietnamese Rinzai Lineage of Nguyen Thieu. Milan brings with him a background in Hinduism and Jainism. This gives him a unique insight into the crossover of these traditions and helps to give depth to his talks.
